TUITION - How a Tutor Should Plan a Class

TUITION - How a Tutor Should Plan a ClassA tutor lesson plan is a plan that outlines how a lesson should be structured. A good plan will include the syllabus, assignments, and student objectives. After the teacher has outlined the scope of the class, he or she will need to provide some structure. A plan will provide the structure to the entire class. There are two different types of plans. One type provides an outline to the course and is usually listed in the syllabus; the other type provides an order for the class. Some parents may prefer a plan that includes both types because they like the flexibility when it comes to scheduling. Before a student enters a class, he or she should meet with the teacher. The teacher will explain the purpose of the class, outline the schedule, and discuss which group and which subject will meet next. In most cases, there will be handouts available for the student to use during the class.Students who are new to an area or subject are more likely to have trouble with the material. This is not always the case, but the teacher should spend time working with the students to make sure that all of the course materials are covered. The teacher should also review the syllabus to ensure that the course meets all of the standards. Before class begins, there should be a classroom discussion to review the syllabus. The teacher should then go over the handouts in the beginning of the class.Meeting with the student for the first time can be a little difficult at first. For this reason, the teacher will want to set up a meeting in advance. When a tutor session is scheduled, the teacher can come into the classroom an hour before the session to set up the class. During the meeting, the student should discuss the classroom procedures.By the end of the meeting, the student should be able to answer questions from the teacher. This is important because the student will be expected to know things such as what unit to study next and how to answer a quest ion. As long as the student knows what is expected of him or her, the teacher will be more than satisfied with the class.A tutor lesson plan is essential to teaching. Before class starts, a tutor will be working hard to provide structure and discipline to the class. In order to make sure that the student is learning what is expected of him or her, the teacher will want to outline the objectives of the class, the steps required to accomplish those objectives, and the expected time to complete the task.

?? A Parents Guide To Instagram

?? A Parents Guide To Instagram A Parents Guide To Instagram Since launching in 2010, Instagram has drastically changed from a simple photo sharing app to a major social media platform allowing photos, videos and messages to be shared across the world between its 800 million users. This quick guide to Instagram will let parents understand more about the platform, and the key ways they can monitor and protect their children when using the social media app.Despite being owned by Facebook, Instagram has its own way of working. With a different target market, different uses, and even its own vocabulary, keeping up with “the gram” can be a challenge. Tutorful are here to help with an easy-to-follow-guide, laying out the different elements and factors to understand about Instagram, and to answer any questions you may have about safety.Did you know that Tutorful are on Instagram? What Is Instagram And Why Do Teens Love It?Instagram is an app where users can share videos, photos and messages across different channels including IGTV, stories, direct messages or feed. Whether celebrating a big life milestone, or an everyday moment with friends, Instagram can be the ideal platform to keep in touch with family and friends and share interests within an online community. Available on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android tablets and phones, the app has built a huge user base that many enjoy every day. The minimum age to create an Instagram account is 13 years old. Users aren’t asked to verify their age but there are many children who use the service with the permission and supervision of a parent or guardian. However, Instagram will delete underage accounts if they are made aware of them and the account cannot verify their age. Instagram is a creative outlet for many young people. The primary use of the platforms is to share photos w ith friends and connections, and this goes beyond just a candid ‘snap’. Using the app, users can learn the basics of photo editing and develop an understanding of layout and design, when creating a tone or theme to their profile. These skills can be useful in other areas of life, and can even encourage a passion for photography, graphic design, or social media marketing. The way that photos, videos and stories can be edited allows young people to create even more of an online depiction of their personality. Users can tailor the content they see on their feed by following accounts that share images and videos of what they are interested in. From puppies to make-up tutorials, and sports to pop culture memes, there is a huge variety of content to enjoy on Instagram. Users can stay within the bubble they create for themselves, or discover similar content and new accounts to follow by exploring hashtags, and engaging with others sharing similar photos. Is Instagram Dangerous? The platform itself is not inherently dangerous. Much like any other social media app, there are risks you should be aware of and consider before agreeing to the terms and conditions of use, and letting your teens run off unsupervised. Instagram does have several policies in place to safeguard users and especially young people, but there are a few ways that users can have a negative experience of using Instagram, before the guidelines and rules take effect. Your child might encounter cyber bullying from their peers via Instagram. Bullies may leave hurtful comments on someone’s posts or share mean content about an individual on a different profile. Sometimes this is anonymous but is often from other young people who know the victim. This can have an extremely negative effect on the way young people see themselves and engage with their peers. A user can also be exposed to inappropriate content on Instagram. Despite having a thorough set of guidelines, some pro files will post sensitive content such as nudity, violence or discriminatory comments and it will be missed by moderators. Even though your child might only be following particular topics and accounts, these can sometimes be infiltrated by those wishing to show inappropriate content to young people. Your child might also be sharing inappropriate content without realising it. For example, posting improper images of someone under 18, or making comments that are considered racist or homophobic, are things that your child is responsible for. Make sure your child understands what they should and should not be posting before they use Instagram, or that you follow their account and can advise on anything they should reconsider. Young people may not fully understand the effects of posting certain information on an online platform. Privacy should be explained to teens who use Instagram and other social media, to ensure they are not sharing personal information that can put them or others in danger. Posting things like addresses online should be avoided at all times as well as information that can be used for online security passwords. Other less obvious problems are things such as the effects on mental health from over using the platform. It is important to monitor whether your child can detach from using the platform and others like it. Being exposed to crafted messages and heavily edited photos can change the behaviour, attitude and self worth of young people who do not understand the full effects of long term social media use. As parents and guardians, we are here to help guide them. How Can I protect my child on Instagram? This guide is here to help you understand Instagram and the way young people use it. However, one of the best ways for you to better understand the platform, and especially how your children make use of it, is to ask them to talk you through it. Kids and Teens are often keen to show off their skills, especially when it comes to popular technology. Asking for a demo is an easy way for you to see first hand how they engage with their peers and friends, gauge their level of understanding of ways it can and should be used, and understand the app itself and how it works. Your child will use Instagram differently to how their friend, sibling or yourself might use the app, so it is best to simply ask them to show you and you can learn how to support them to use it safely.Check out these key actions you should be aware of to ensure your child is safe and happy when using Instagram.Make their account private. Having a private account on Instagram means that the user has to approve everyone who follows them. Only once the user has given permission, can the other person see their posts and engage with the content. This offers a level of privacy and ensures only people your child knows and trusts can see with their profile. Tap on the profile button at the bottom right of the platform, select options (iOS) or the 3 vertical dots (Android ) and scroll to ‘Private Account’. Swipe the button to the right and it will turn blue to show the account has been made private. Block Bullies Trolls. If someone is bothering your child with messages, comments, or by tagging them in photos that they do not want to be tagged in, your child can block that person with only a few clicks. A person that you block cannot contact you directly in any way. Blocking someone stops them from mentioning you in comments, tagging you, and seeing the content that you post. Block a user by going to their profile, tap the 3 dots in the top right and select ‘block’. Reporting Problematic Posts. If there are users which you believe are posting inappropriate photos, videos and comments, and breaking the community guidelines of Instagram, you can report them. Click the 3 dots next to their username and select ‘Report’. You have the chance to say why you think it is inappropriate and Instagram will investigate and moderate if they have to. Managing Comments. To avoid escalating to the point of blocking or reporting a user, your child can simply manage the way comments are left on their posts. In the ‘Comment Control’ section of the settings, a user can choose to allow comments from their followers, people they follow, followers of those they follow, or everyone. Limiting who can comment on photos can improve mental health and reduce the harassment that can happen from other users. Your child can remove comments from their posts by swiping left on the comment (iOS) or tapping the comment and holding (Android). Tracking Time on Instagram. Whether you’re an adult or teenager, it is very easy to lose track of time when on social media. Instagram has introduced a number of tools to manage the time your child spends on the platform, and for you both to understand how to use it more productively. Access these controls by selecting ‘Your Activity’ from the menu on your child’s profile where you can see the average time spent on Instagram, set reminders when a time limit is exceeded, and mute some or all notifications. Posting to Stories. Whilst publishing something to an Instagram ‘story’ isn’t necessarily making it private, it is temporary. A story will disappear after 24 hours unless saved to the highlights of the profile. Whilst teens and adults should avoid posting inappropriate content at all times, a story is a chance to post something silly that won’t become part of your permanent feed. On your profile, click the blue cross on the bottom right of the profile picture to add to a story. Check that if your child’s Instagram is linked to their Facebook account, that their stories aren’t posted automatically to their Facebook story as well. Setting up your own account. In addition to asking your child to show you their instagram, why not ask them to help set up one for you? You don’t necessarily need to post a lot, or in the same way as your child, but it could give you a way of monitoring that your teen is using the platform in a safe way, but without asking to see their phone eve ry so often. Hey, you might even find content you like yourself. Don’t get downhearted, there is a lot of cool, interesting and useful content to be found on Instagram and it can give your child a creative outlet, increase their knowledge, and plays an important part in their social circles. Young people like Greta Thurnberg and Casey Ann are using Instagram to spread their messages and inspire other young people to get active in areas such as reading and environmental activism. We hope this guide is useful and lets you and your child enjoy using Instagram in the best way. Getting kids to start reading can be made easy and fun - ALOHA Mind Math

Getting kids to start reading can be made easy and fun Reading to your children every day is one of the most important things a parent can do. Not only you spend quality time with you children but also cultivate into them a habit which is a multidimensional process involving word recognition, comprehension, fluency, and motivation. Kindergarten and first grade lay the foundation for how kids feel about books throughout theireducation, says Annemarie B. Jay, Ph.D., director of graduate and doctoral reading programs at Widener University, in Chester, Pennsylvania. As a kid I used to dread reading a book merely by just looking at the thickness of the book. Have you faced similar issues with your children? It is very important for a parent not only to read to their children but to also teach them to read on their own and most importantly getting them to like doing it. You need to draw them to have an equally liking towards letters, sounds and words as much they have towards playing board games. Learning to read is a simple process, it may take a while to develop reading proficiency but once the foundation is laid it’s for life and your kids will benefit from it forever. I would like to share with you a few tricks which you could probably use to take your first steps towards getting your kids to start reading and off course enjoy doing it to. Go beyond books; get your kids to read almost everything they come across in their daily life for example comics, game directions, cereal boxes, sign boards, store names when you’re driving, billboards, kid-friendly magazines or columns the list can go on. This gets them to comprehend and synthesize the information from what theyve read. Read it out aloud and engage your kids in the story; discuss the story plot with them this jump starts their imagination process and helps kids predict the story while illustrations often give them clues to word. They also build knowledge bank of words through this. Bring in competition: List down 5 books which you and your kid can read and keep a tracker and see how far each one goes on daily basis. The winner obviously gets gift in form of BEST SELLER. Enroll to the Aloha Reading/Writing program which is an integrated approach to develop and strengthen communication skills. Aloha mind math reading writing programs have achieved some commendable results getting kids to bring about a structure in their reading skills which includes fiction and nonfiction passages from a variety of genres. The strength of this program is that it is not like tutoring programs in which the students are expected to sit for an hour and fill out worksheets. In the Aloha Reading/Writing program the students are active learners as opposed to passive recipients of information. They are engaged throughout the lesson and the active learning experience results in confident and effective communicators. Check them out here http://alohamindmath.com/program/reading-writing/ Well I am going to be sharing these ideas with my friends and family and hope you can use them and do the same.

The tutors are experienced and have a lot of knowledge in teaching computer classes for students who are self-taught or have some limited knowledge about computers. However, the online tutors are not the same as a regular tutor.Tutors can be obtained from regular or online tutors. In the case of regular tutors, you have to pay your fee at the beginning of each semester. Online tutors are also available online but you have to pay for the service.Tutors are trained to provide useful knowledge about computer lessons for writers. You can find tutors that offer the services through different sources and they may charge different rates for the tutoring. You can check out the website of a particular tutor and see what services are offered to the clients. A tutor may ask for money up front from his clie nt to cover some amount for the book fees. If you find out that the tutor is a person who charges large fees for the services, it is advisable to go for another teacher.Tutors have specialties and they specialize in specific subject areas. This will enable you to select a tutor according to your individual needs. If you have a partner who would also want to learn how to write, you can discuss with the tutor and find out if there is any cost difference if you would be getting the services of a tutor who does not charge for the book fees. gTar Is This Grown-Up Guitar Hero Worth It

gTar Is This Grown-Up Guitar Hero Worth It Suzy S. Weve posted about cool tech innovations before, but were especially intrigued by the newest it item for budding musicians: behold, the gTar.  While many professionals have criticized earlier programs like Rock Band and Guitar Hero for not teaching actual chords, with the gTar, youre actually playing on true-to-life frets and strings.  The product is still in the early stages, but its been getting a ton of industry buzz. Playing the hardware looks easy enough: simply place your phone in the iPhone dock, choose a song within the gTar app library, and the corresponding strings/frets light up as the tune plays through.  Users can also open a free play mode, allowing you to pick and play at your leisure along with different instruments and effects. Check out this video footage of the inventor, Idan Beck, explaining the concept: Its been interesting to see the evolution of these kinds of games and programs: weve seen Rocksmith and Guitar Prodigy roll through, with the technology to hook up to real guitars, and other novelty apps like the Futulele transform iPads and iPhones into instruments, but this newest product is the closest weve gotten to the real thing. Basically, as HypeBot describes, the gTar is a $450 guitar with an iPhone for a brain. Sensors fill the neck of the guitar, and every string vibration is recognized although the sounds come out of your iPhones speakers.  The company worked with guitar makers to make it as true-to-form as possible, and the body is made out of wood, as opposed to plastic. Our opinion?  Products like gTar will never replace good old-fashioned guitars (or guitar teachers!). But  we want to hear what you think are you still suspicious of virtual guitar games like the gTar?  Teachers, are you for or against this kind of learning?  Let us know what you think leave a comment below, or stop by our Facebook page to share! How to Structure Your Guitar Practice for Ideal Results

How to Structure Your Guitar Practice for Ideal Results Suzy S. Struggling with your guitar practice? If youre not improving as much as you expected, poor practice habits might be to blame. Revamp your attitude and your routine with this advice from Clearwater, FL   teacher Jeremy R I’ll never forget the first time I saw it. I couldn’t believe what the tablature was saying. Here in my hands was the Steve Vai guitar workout. It was an amazing assortment of flying fingers and knuckle-breaking speed. I took it home and for hours attempted the same type of craziness that Vai pulls off so fluently. After about two weeks I was able to play half of the simplest of the exercises, but not very well. I persevered but after a month still wasn’t making very much progress. As I became increasingly frustrated, I stopped doing the Vai exercises and soon moved on to playing something else. What I failed to realize was that I wasn’t Steve Vai, accomplished guitar virtuoso. I was Jeremy, who had been playing guitar for two months. There was no way that I was going to be able to play like Vai in the one or two weeks that I would have liked. I tell you this story to illustrate the importance of having a regular and regimented practice routine. The goals and milestones will always change over time, and your focus may change as well. The formula for effective practice, however, has and always will be the same. It is a story of incremental progress and inspiration. I like to break my practice down into 30 minutes. Sometimes I might practice more, but never less than 30 minutes. Some teachers recommend practicing two or three times a week for 30 minutes. This is normal and good. Too much practice and you will risk burning out. Too little of a challenge and you’ll be bored with mindless scales until your next lesson. Heres a good breakdown of 30-minute practice session: The first 10 minutes: During my first ten minutes I review the things that I have been working toward. This is as much of a warm-up for me as it is keeping recent techniques in my memory and fresh on the fretboard. For instance, if I was working on bending strings last week, I play ten minutes of blues with string bends, etc. Second 10 Minutes: This is where the hard work comes in. I try to tackle something new. It doesn’t have to be technically difficult. Maybe it’s putting expression in a song and playing with conviction.   Music is so cool because it doesn’t have to be a blistering shred of notes that fly off the fretboard to be amazing! Third 10 Minutes: This is my favorite part. It’s doing something fun on my instrument. For example, I might turn on the radio and play along to whatever song is on. It’s an interesting challenge and its fun to learn songs that wouldn’t necessarily be my preference. Its important to remember to take a break after the half hour. If you want to keep playing, great but you do need a break.  Do this regimen three to four times per week for a month and you will make great strides in short time, because you’re working smarter and not harder. Now go forth and rock the world! Jeremy R. teaches bass guitar, guitar, singing, Broadway singing, music recording, music theory, songwriting, speaking voice, trumpet, acting, French horn and upright bass lessons to students in Clearwater, FL.  Find a teacher to book lessons today! What are the Main Elements of Creative Writing

What are the Main Elements of Creative Writing The Crucial Things to Consider in Creative Writing. ChaptersThe Main Elements of Prose Fiction. The Main Elements of Screenwriting and Stage Writing. The Essential Features of Poetry.Other Creative Writing Skills You Need to Know.Like all artistic endeavours, there is no one skill that creative writing demands. Rather, it is a collection of lots of different skills and elements that need to hang well together.Creating a compelling character, for example, is not the same skill as writing a beautiful description of a place or action. Nor is profundity and originality of thought the same as metrical fluency or ability to rhyme. All of the different elements of creative writing require different skills â€" and to write a masterpiece they all need to coalesce, balance, and complement each other. A novel with a cracking plot can easily fall down if the characters aren’t convincing, or if the writing style is clumsy or jarring. When you are writing your own work, fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, you will need to ensure that you practice all of the skills that you will need to make your work a marvellous whole. And that means cracking every single one of these main elements of creative writing. So, let’s take a look at what they are â€" for your fiction writing, your poetry writing, and your playwriting. Whilst some elements are shared between forms, they feature in different ways.At the end, we’ll take a look at three of the main skills that are relevant to all of the major forms of creative writing too. Forms like the short story and the novel fall under this category, whereas prose texts such as the personal essay fall under the remit of creative nonfiction. In prose fiction, you are going to be wanting to create compelling character and engaging plots â€" enabled by convincing dialogue strong descriptive writing when it is necessary.Character Development. Some people will tell you that character development is the mos t important element of novel writing. And they wouldn’t necessarily be wrong.Characters are the things through which you propel your narrative forward, and they are vehicles through which you explore your theme. But they are more than that too: they are what make people remember books, they are what allow people to relate and empathise.Making time to think about who you want your characters to be is a crucial part of writing fiction.Plot Development. What is it that happens in your novel or piece of short fiction? A novel needs to have some forward motion, there needs to be some sort of events, conflicts, tensions, crises, and resolutions. Unless you are Samuel Beckett or Raymond Queneau, of course, who determinedly wrote books in which nothing happens.Despite this, there has to be a reason why your audience will keep reading. Plotting out the main events â€" even if these are purely cerebral happenings â€" can help you make sense of the structure of your fiction.Dialogue.Writing c onvincing dialogue in an age of realism is a notoriously difficult skill. Yet, it is one of the really crucial elements of effective fiction. The novelist, Will Self, has spoken of how, during his writing process, he would go to cafes just to listen to people talk. Listening carefully to the cadences of real speech enables you to render them well â€" whilst banal imperatives like ‘write like you talk’ are never quite as easy as they seem.Whilst writing dialogue, think about whether the speech in your fiction needs to be directly spoken, or whether it can sit indirectly in your prose.Find out how to improve your creative writing! Want to write a novel? Try a creative writing course.Descriptive Writing.Another major feature of fiction writing is writing the scenes themselves, the flesh of the world that you are creating. And one of the most important writing techniques in this is knowing what actually needs to be said. What are people wearing and where do they live? What details does your audience need to know? What can you leave out without harm? Too much irrelevant information bogs down the flow of your piece. Finally, how are you going to write this? To learn how to write well â€" in terms of the cadence, fluency, and sound of your sentences â€" is just as important as everything else here. The Main Elements of Screenwriting and Stage Writing. Now, it is a little unfair here to collapse writing for screen and writing for stage. The professional writers among you will surely have something to say about this.Yet, the difference between writing a text to be read and a text to be heard is huge â€" and if you are ju ggling both prose and drama, you’ll need to keep this in your head the whole time. Good writing in theatre or film is not the same as good writing when you are writing a novel.Dialogue.Dialogue, of course, is the main element of these texts â€" and you will need to hone your dialogue skills if you hope to stand a chance in the world of scriptwriting.A screenwriter and playwright needs to use dialogue in a different way. Dialogue is the action on stage â€" as much as it is the character. And it is much more alive than it can possibly be in a book.Character.On stage or screen, there is no way to verbally describe a character as there is in a book. You can show them, yes, or you can reveal their nature through the things that they say.A creative writer therefore needs to feed details about their character through that character’s own words, or through the words of other characters. The characters need to be more unified too â€" as they don’t have the markers that they can hide beh ind in novels.Check out our introduction to creative writing for more! The Essential Features of Poetry. You’ll see that creative writing courses split up those people interested in writing poetry from the writing program for novelists. This is because reading and writing poetry is completely different to writing fiction, or even drama: being a good novelist does not make you a good poet â€" and vice versa. In a poetry workshop you will focus on completely different things than you would in a creative writing course for fiction or creative non-fiction. In poetry, language takes on a different form, a difference as large as that between travel writing and technical writing.Metre.If you are a poet yourself, you won’t need to be told that the crucial feature of poetry is metre and rhythm. Take a writing sample from any poet in the history of English and you will see that rhythm takes centre stage.Finding a way to write both naturally and within the confines of the form is the great ne gotiation that a poet has to make, so that metrical alertness becomes second nature within the creative process.Structure and Form. Are you going to write an ode or a sonnet, a ballad or a limerick? And how do you engage with the specificities of these forms once you have made that decision? Moreover, indeed, how have you made that decision, and why?As the very essence of a poem, the form is the thing that gives the poem sense. And according to your personal poetics, you’ll give it that sense you feel most appropriate.Meaning and Symbolism. When we write poems, what happens to language? Does it become more compressed? More ambiguous? More symbolic, allusive, elusive?‘Meaning’ in the conventional sense doesn’t quite function in the same way. Language shimmers here, whilst it takes on much more of a solid form in a poem. What you are trying to say â€" or what you want the poem to be â€" matters. Someone's been busy with their creative writing...Other Creative Writing Skills You Need to Know. All of the above are elements that you will need to decide on with the form of your creative piece â€" whether a prose poem or a selection of personal essays. However there are elements of creative writing that go unseen in the finished work. These are the processes of research, planning and editing, which hold the book together and bring it into existence.Research.Research is everything that happens to a text before it is written into words. It is the ideas, the inspirations, the considerations of style, the factual details and descriptive phrases that you need to pin down and be sure of.No novel is possible without research.Planning.Planning brings together the research with the framework you will create. How is one event or idea going to follow the next one? And why? And is that the best way to do it?Editing.Once you have finished your writing, you still have more writing to do. That wr iting is what we conventionally call editing.Find out about jobs in creative writing!

Afraid of Phone Calls Here Are 8 Steps to Help You Beat Your Phone Phobia - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Afraid of Phone Calls Here Are 8 Steps to Help You Beat Your Phone Phobia - Introvert Whisperer Afraid of Phone Calls? Here Are 8 Steps to Help You Beat Your Phone Phobia Many introverts prefer text messages, social media, or email when contacting friends or customers. They have some time to think about what they’re going to write. They can restructure and revise all the information they’d like to provide. Finally, if nothing comes to mind, they have the option of responding with a simple “OK”, a gif, or a meme.   All of this with the added bonus of feeling safe and secure. Unfortunately, phone calls don’t offer the same luxury, and this can leave everyone, including introverts, feeling vulnerable or nervous. If you have an important phone call coming up, especially a business one with someone you dont know, there are a few things you can do to take the edge off. 1. Calm Yourself First Introverts often deal with anxiety surrounding social situations. Instituting a calming routine can help ease the jitters and switch the mind into a more social mode. Many introverts find that meditation helps. Clearing your mind, fully relaxing, and taking a few deep breaths can help you tamper down some anxiety. When you’re wound a little less tight, it’s easier to focus on the task at hand with a clear mind. Do whatever it is you do to relax or clear your mind â€" even if it’s a leisurely walk. 2. Write Notes and Take Them With You You might be worried that you’ll bungle something up or forget to mention something important â€" especially if you’re calling about a job interview or something equally as meaningful. Write notes about all the things you’d like to discuss, and keep them in front of you. If you’re not sure what to say or if you’re worried about something in particular, you’ll have a reference sheet. 3. Make Sure You’re Comfortable â€" Physically and Mentally Since a phone call can be done alone, there’s no reason to get all dressed up. If you’re most comfortable in your pajamas, take the phone call in your pajamas. Don’t wear a belt that digs into you or shoes that pinch your toes. Physical comfort can help promote mental comfort. Make the call from a place where you feel secure and wear something cozy. Calling someone in your pajamas might be a bit more difficult if you are in the office and have to make a business call to a client. However, even at work you can probably find that little corner behind the coffee machine that is both quiet and out of your coworkers earshot. If it is currently occupied by your introvert colleague, consider going to the bathroom. No worries, it turns out that 3 out of 4 people take their phones to the bathroom, so you will not look weird. If you cant do that either, just leave the office and talk on the corridor, or in front of the building. You will feel less stressed knowing that there is nobody there listening to your call. 4. Practice What You’re Going to Say Sometimes, saying the actual words aloud may help. You won’t be self conscious about the way you phrase things, the volume of your voice, or your intonation if you’ve said the same thing a few dozen times. Run through your talking points until you get tired of them. Memorize them so well that you could recite them in your sleep. Repetition will help dull the words down, making them less uneasy to say. This is helpful if your phone call is to place a counteroffer on real estate or request a promotion â€" situations in which you may need to project confidence. 5. Make a “Mock” Call to a Friend Doing something the second time never feels quite as stressful as it did initially. One smart way to relieve the stress connected with making a phone call is to make a “mock” one before the “real” one. Call a friend, a family member, or a coworker â€" someone you are comfortable talking to over the phone. You can just chat for a minute or two which will help you unwind and get into the phone conversation mood. Even better, if your mock caller is aware of your phone phobia, you might even practice the “real” phone call with them. Regardless of what you choose to talk about, typing in the phone number, hearing the ring tone, and then having to start the “mock” conversation will make it so much easier for you when you are starting the “real” one, two, or three minutes later 6. Utilize Your Energy Move around a little bit. Use your hands. Make facial expressions. Pace around when you’re on the phone. If you get nervous energy that builds up in the moment, use that energy as you talk. It won’t get pent up and affect your phone call. There’s nothing wrong with fidgeting â€" the person on the other end of the phone won’t see you. If you have nervous energy coping mechanisms, remember that you’re free to use them however you see fit. Phone calls offer a unique kind of privacy that might even be better than having a conversation in person. 7. Visualization May Help If your nervousness surrounding phone calls stems from the fact that you cannot see the person or let their physical cues and nonverbal communication shape the conversation, visualize the person. If you’re paying attention to the tone of their voice, it’s easier to imagine what they may look or the way they’re sitting. If you can picture yourself in front of the person and doing so would ease your anxiety, allow yourself to. Pull up a picture of the person if that aids in your visualization. 8. Give Yourself a Reward There are two reasons why you should schedule a reward for after your phone call. The first is that a reward is a motivation to do something successfully. You’re giving yourself an incentive to do something you don’t really want to do, which makes getting through the process a little more exciting. The second reason is that you’re building a positive association with something that makes you uncomfortable. Over time, when you reflect on the reward at the end, it might dull your unease with speaking on the phone. Plenty of people, introverts and extroverts alike, aren’t big fans of phone calls. If you work at improving your ability to speak on the phone little by little, things will become easier over time. Try utilizing as many techniques as possible to increase your chances of success.
